Why Marco Reus is staying at Dortmund

I think we can finally do it. Yes, lean a bit to your left and hit the button that says "HYSTERIA" on it. Marco Reus rumors have now all but gone into "silly mode."

In the last week, we have seen Reus linked with clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern, and a seemingly unending list of potential suitors. What we have failed to introduce into this conversation, though, is cold hard facts. Like, for instance, what is Borussia Dortmund saying about this entire thing? What are the thoughts of Jürgen Klopp? Klopp really couldn't be more clear in a recent press conference.

"I CAN ASSURE EVERYONE, THAT THERE ISN'T A SINGLE SIGN THAT EITHER OF THESE GUYS ARE LEAVING THIS SEASON"
-JÜRGEN KLOPP-

Klopp also responded to the potential transfer of Hummels, regarding the reported 20 million Euro fee United were going to shell out.

"FOR HOW MUCH? 20 MILLION? WITH SUCH FIGURES YOU CAN ALL FORGET IT ANYWAY."
-JÜRGEN KLOPP-

This is certainly interesting, considering most media outlets want fans to believe that Reus is on a clear exit, and in the range of the 20 million Euro figure. Clearly, Klopp isn't amused at this price range for his star players.

It is apparent, however, that Reus does have a release clause in his contract worth a reported 35 million Euro for next season. In other words, Reus could leave next season without BVB having any say in the matter. It would make much more sense for the European powerhouses to wait until next summer to secure the services of the German playmaker, which make this years rumors a bit hysterical.

In addition, Reus is still recovering from injury and wouldn't be of any use until September. This makes it seem even more unlikely a big club would throw out inordinate amounts of cash. In addition, we still haven't discussed the entire "contract rejection" debacle that was reported this week. Again, mass hysteria is in effect.

Many major media outlets ran a story that Reus has rejected a contract extension with Dortmund. In actuality, the original article from BILD in Germany said nothing about a contract extension at all. The article was mistranslated, and thus we have the hysteria of Reus potentially being available this summer.

The original article does cite a good point, and that is that Borussia Dortmund have been negotiating to try and buy out the release clause that Reus has written in his contract. Although they have been unsuccessful up to this point, which is what the article actually states, the club is still planning on trying another round of negotiations to keep Reus in Dortmund long-term.

In other words, Reus hasn't really rejected anything at the moment from Dortmund and appears to still be interested in what the club would offer.

For now, we can all take a deep breath.

We know that Reus will be in Dortmund for the 2014/2015 season. It's to be expected that this hysteria button will once again be in use come next year.

With that in mind, though, we're pushing the "RELAX" button having looked at all the evidence. Reus will be in Dortmund, whether fans of other top clubs in Europe want to think differently or not.
